Profile Optimization
LinkedIn™ Profile Optimization Checklist
By Shelli K. Spence · Shelli's Socials
This checklist teaches you to optimize your LinkedIn™ profile so it functions like a conversion machine.
When used correctly, this framework drives higher visibility, stronger connection, and more qualified leads — using the same system taught inside every Shelli's Socials coaching engagement.
This is the first stage of the
OAC Framework. Optimize before you Attract. An unoptimized profile turns visibility into wasted effort.
Why Profile Optimization Comes First
Most people jump straight to posting content. But the purpose of every post, comment, and connection request is to drive people back to your profile. If the profile isn't engineered to convert, all that activity is wasted.
Visitors decide whether to stay on your profile in under 14 seconds. Your profile must immediately answer: Who are you? Who do you help? What should I do next?
The Checklist
🔑
Strategic Foundations
- Profile is mobile-optimized (scannable, clean hierarchy, headshot visible)
- Every section points the visitor toward a single action (book a call, subscribe, connect)
- Profile content aligns with your niche and what you post about
📸
Top Section — Profile Photo
- Clear, professional solo headshot
- Approachable and on-brand
- Clean, uncluttered background
🖼️
Top Section — Banner
- Mobile-friendly — all text (including small text) is legible on a phone screen
- Lower-left corner left blank for headshot overlay
- 2–3 cohesive colors, professional appearance
🔗
Blue Link (Custom CTA Button)
- CTA is action-based (e.g., "Book Now," "Download Guide," "Book a Free Call") for your main offer
- Links to your website, booking page, or newsletter — not just your homepage
🧲
Headline — The Hot Zone
- First 45 characters communicate value — this is what appears in search results and comment previews
- Free of filler and vague buzzwords ("passionate," "results-driven," "thought leader")
- Answers: who you help, what problem you solve, and what makes you credible
🧽
About Section — Make It About Them, Not You
- Uses PAS structure: Problem → Agitate → Solution
- Speaks directly to the reader using "you" language
- Free of jargon, fluff, or long backstory
- Includes a clear call-to-action at the end (what to do next)
💎
Featured Section
- First tile showcases your main offer or most important content
- Content is clickable, mobile-optimized, and visually strong
- Think of this as your profile's billboard — it should stop the scroll
🧱
Experience Section
- Clearly links past roles to your current offer and expertise
- Uses language aligned with your ideal client's perspective
- Highlights outcomes, transformations, and results — not just duties
🔧
Supporting Elements
- Top 3 skills match your offer and content themes (not just recent job history)
- At least 2 recent recommendations that speak to your specific results
After You Optimize: What's Next
Once your profile is conversion-ready, it's time to move to the Attract stage — building visibility through strategic content and commenting. Then the social selling Convert stage turns that visibility into real conversations.
The full system — including how all three stages work together — is explained in the OAC Method overview. And if you want to know what kind of results are possible when the system is working, read what to expect from a LinkedIn strategy.
